Knightwood Oak (Brown Oak) Tree Stump

Knightwood Oak (Brown Oak) Tree Stump

This Knightwood Oak tree stump is around 500-600 years old and it more than likely came down in the storms of '87 and has been laying on the ground ever since.  The Knightwood Oak is one of the oldest of several different varieties of Oak in The New Forest and there are records of some exceeding 1000 years old.  The name Brown Oak is the common name given to Oak when it is no longer classed as green (alive or freshly cut) when it is well seasoned and weathered, light brown in colour and knarled in appearance.  This happens when the outer inch (sap line) rots away and stays in this hardened preserved state for many years making it a very sought after, expensive and reliable wood.

This tree stump has many purposes and can be used for;

- a coffee table

- a planter

- or as I use myself to retain walls to make different levels in the garden and also to use as a rockery instead of rocks to give a softer and more natural feel.

- This can also be used (like my mother does) on your porch as a welly boot stand!!

- or anything your mind can stretch to

Often these tree stumps, if naturally fallen, can look like whale tails, ideal for a home and garden display piece giving form, structure and a beautiful focal point to your garden.

Approx 4 foot x 3 foot.
